EDUCATION

B.S. Biology and B.A. German Language and Literature , Luther College, Decorah, IA

Ph.D. Cellular and Molecular Pathology, University of Wisconsin—Madison, Madison, WI

Eli’s post-bac work includes working as a research technician/lab manager in the lab of Dr. Rama Maganti at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix Arizona where he researched sleep deprivation and its on learning and synaptic plasticity. This was research that continued when the lab moved to UW-Madison in 2012, where he worked again as a tech in Rama’s lab.

Eli then entered the Cellular and Molecular Pathology graduate program (PhD) working for Drs. Mathew Jones and Rama Maganti. His Ph.D. thesis research was centered on the interactions between seizures and sleep regulation in epilepsy, attempting to disentangle the individual effects of acute sleep deprivation on hippocampal tonic inhibitory currents and of epilepsy on sleep homeostasis and circadian rhythms.

At Moss Laboratories, Eli will be researching the electrophysiological effects of neuroendocrine signaling and KCC2 dysfunction on GABAergic inhibition.
