Postdoc, Tufts University, Boston Massachusetts

Phil is a staff scientist in the Moss Lab working in collaboration with Ovid Therapeutics.

Phil went to Queen’s University for his undergraduate degree in Life Science and completed an honors project with Dr. Neil Magoski examining the role of electrical synapses in coordinating the egg laying response in aplysia californica. Moving to the University of Calgary to work with Dr. Jaideep Bains, Phil’s Ph.D. focused on inhibitory constraint of the stress axis through extrasynaptic mechanisms including corticosterone-induced modulation of tonic GABAergic inhibition, and heterosynaptic modulation of endocannabinoid-induced suppression of inhibition by metabotropic glutamate receptors. For his Postdoctoral work Phil moved to Tufts and worked with Dr. Jamie Maguire, examining the role of parvalbumin interneurons in the Basolateral Amygdala in gating anxiety network states comorbid with chronic epilepsies.

In the Moss Lab, Phil will be using his electrophysiological expertise to help bring promising pre-clinical antiepileptic small-molecule compounds to clinical trials.
